What Faculty can Expect

New Unified Questions

Course Evaluations for lecture and seminar courses will now use a unified list of questions across all departments at Texas State University.

Nine of these new questions use a strongly agree to strongly disagree rating scale:

  1. The instructor presents course content in a manner that helps me learn.
  2. The instructor encourages me to participate in the class.
  3. The instructor encourages me to do my best in the course.
  4. The instructor explains how I can succeed in the course.
  5. The instructor communicates that I am welcome to ask for help when I need it.
  6. The instructor makes it clear how I can ask questions when I need help.
  7. The instructor demonstrates how I can apply the topics and skills covered in this course.
  8. The instructor provides sufficient opportunities to practice what I am learning.
  9. The instructor provides feedback that helps me identify strengths or areas for improvement.

And three open-ended questions:

  1. What did the instructor do that helped you learn?
  2. What could the instructor do differently to improve learning in this class?
  3. Is there anything else you’d like the instructor to know about the course?

Unified Evaluation Scale

Faculty will benefit from a unified evaluation scale and set of questions across lecture and seminar courses. This creates a more consistent evaluation experience and provides a common framework for reviewing course feedback.

Annual Review

Course evaluation results will no longer need to be manually imported. Results will be automatically imported for use in your annual review.

Incentivization

Per AA/PPS No. 02.03.01 (Section 16.01), incentivization of course evaluations is NOT permitted. Faculty MAY NOT require students to complete evaluations for a grade in their course.

Create a Canvas Course

Creating a Canvas course helps streamline the course evaluation process. Course rosters are pulled directly from Canvas, allowing student enrollment information to be automatically imported into the course evaluation system and evaluation reminders to be sent directly to students.

Even if you do not plan to use Canvas for instruction, please create a Canvas course for your class. This allows us to efficiently access your student roster and reduces the need for manual data entry.
